In late February 2023, I traveled to Naoshima for a holiday. My first trip in a long time! Episode 3. We visited not the "Red Pumpkin" which can be seen as soon as we arrived at miyaura Port in Naoshima, but the "Naoshima Pavilion".

Naoshima Pavilion, Sousuke Fujimoto, 2015

The Naoshima map at the ferry terminal is yellow and strangely shaped. The white mass seen beyond it is the work of Sousuke Fujimoto.

About 3 minutes walk from the ferry terminal.

Work by architect Sousuke Fujimoto (2015).

The works were open to the public by the harbor and there was no admission fee. Occasionally, when more people visit, there is a line to take pictures.

Geometric three-dimensional work. It is built with stainless steel mesh.

The ground was also partially painted to give a sense of continuity to the work.

I go inside, and I get a strange sensation, as if I have wandered into a computer graphics.

The "Naoshima Pavilion" was formed of very complex polyhedra, some of which were strong enough to be climbed on.

The shadows extending to the feet are also beautiful.

The introduction of the work was at the foot of the page.

Udon noodle shop you can see in front of you from here. That's Kagawa Prefecture! But it seemed to have already closed for business that day. Too bad.

Red Pumpkin, Yayoi Kusama, 2006

Yayoi Kusama's masterpieces, whose photos are often seen in various media. We are finally meeting her.

Do not get on the works. (I never thought of that idea)

Boom!!

It is very powerful. It also feels scary.

Here's what the inside of a red pumpkin looks like.

I admired the whole place, looking around and from the inside looking out. I felt as if the red pumpkins were living plants or animals. It is a strange sensation.

I'm sorry I said I was scared at first.

Benesse House private bus to Chichu Art Museum

For this stay, we have reserved the Benesse House. A private bus runs around the island, so we will take it to the Chichu Art Museum.

I had confirmed on the web that there were no advance reservations for buses, so I wondered, "What if there are too many customers?"However, I needn't have worried because two buses were already there.

Tell the bus driver your name and get a tag to hang from your bag. This is your ticket to board the bus.

The bus goes through the center of Naoshima. I could not take a picture of it, but there was a 7-Eleven on the way. It was recently opened.

Naoshima Town Hall was seen ↑. Designed in a traditional Japanese style, it is said to be a four-story reinforced concrete structure. The distinctive exterior with asymmetrical roofs is said to have been modeled after the Hounkaku building at Nishi Honganji Temple in Kyoto.

On the way, we passed by Yayoi Kusama's "Yellow Pumpkin"↑. It was out of focus!

Benesse House was spread out over a vast area on Naoshima. The area has many ups and downs, making walking difficult for the distance.

As I admired the beautiful scenery from the bus, I came to the area around the Benesse Museum building. The Chichu Art Museum is just around the corner. To be continued.
